Srce Velebita (Velebit Heart) is 2 day mountain bike event. It took place on 16.09. and 17.09.2017. The bicycle race took place on the first day, between easy and hard I choose the hard one. HQ and start were at Hostel Sveti Rok, finish was at “mali Halan”.
Although it was a real race, with numbers, timing and feed zones, it was organized in the best mountain bike tradition – relaxed, friendly and laid-back attitude.
Time before and after the race was filled with live music – performed by very talented local artist, tombola – profit went for humanitarian purposes, and my favourite – free zipline! 😀
As it was my first time on the zipline, and I was too scared to really enjoy it – I guess I have to try it again soon. Check it out:
2nd day
The next day I was worried since it was raining all night, and the weather was very moody in the morning. Also because of the rain, “hard” ride was cancelled and combined with the “easy” ride. So I didn’t have much choice then to select the third option “ultra hard”. 😀 Although I am not in the best shape of my life – I guess I was overwhelmed by breath taking beauty of the Velebit and decided to enjoy it to the maximum.
After the start was postponed few times because of the rain – we finally went off to the adventure.
Ultra hard ride took as again from Hostel Sveti Rok to mali Halan, then towards Tulove grede, uphill to Kraljica, then up and down a little bit and finally magnificent ride down to the Adriatic sea. (For full description checkout the organizers web page, it is in Croatian but google translate can help you: outdoorlab.hr/index.php/ultra)
How was the ride you can see in this video:
It is a little bit long, but the ride and scenery were so epic that I had hard time cutting out the scenes.
About Velebit
Velebit is the largest though not the highest mountain range in Croatia. Its highest peak is the Vaganski vrh at 1,757m. The range forms a part of the Dinaric Alps and is located along the Adriatic coast, separating it from Lika in the interior. Velebit begins in the northwest near Senj with the Vratnik mountain pass and ends 145 km to the southeast near the source of the Zrmanja river northwest of Knin. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velebit)
